| Inhalte | (D) Die Vermutung, die Erde könnte bereits vor Milliarden von Jahren und unvorstellbar lange vor dem Erscheinen unserer Spezies entstanden sein, ging im 18. Jahrhundert mit einer «geologischen Kränkung» einher. In Relation zu solch gigantischen Zeiträumen drohte alles Menschliche zur völligen Bedeutungslosigkeit zusammenzuschrumpfen. Abhilfe schaffte nicht zuletzt die Ordnung der Disziplinen, in welcher Geologie und Geschichtswissenschaften streng voneinander getrennt wurden. Seit jedoch zu Beginn dieses Jahrtausends das Anthropozän als neues erdgeschichtliches Zeitalter in die Diskussion eingebracht wurde, ist die Grenze zwischen Human- und Erdgeschichte unscharf geworden. Der geologische Wandel vollzieht sich nicht mehr ohne das Zutun menschlicher Einflussnahme, und die in einem Menschenleben zuvor kaum wahrnehmbaren Veränderungen des Klimas und der Geologie scheinen nun spürbar beschleunigt. Im Übergang zum Hochgebirge ist das Furka-Gebiet ein Ort, an dem verschiedene Formen von Zeitlichkeit aufeinandertreffen. Ihre Dynamiken manifestieren sich in geologischen Formationen ebenso wie in Pflanzen- und Tierpopulationen oder dem Schwinden der Eismassen im nahegelegenen Rhonegletscher. Aber auch die Wiederbelebung der ehemaligen Militärunterkünfte als Forschungs- und Ausbildungsstation oder die Alterung des heute nicht mehr in Betrieb stehenden Hotels Furkablick in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft dazu lassen sich als Zeichen sowohl des historischen wie des klimatischen Wandels lesen. Zusammen mit den Biolog:innen Erika Hiltbrunner und Christian Körner (beide ALPFOR, Universität Basel) erkunden wir Zeit- und Altersdimensionen einzelner Tiere, Pflanzen und ihren Substraten, von stabilen und sich in Veränderung befindenden Lebensräumen, von unterschiedlichen Mikro- und Makroklimata. Inputs, Diskussionen, Wanderungen, informelle Gespräche und eure eigenen Beiträge werden die Tage auf der Furka strukturieren. (E) In the 18th century, the assumption that the earth could have been evolved billions of years ago, an unimaginably long time before the appearance of our own species, was accompanied by a “geological humiliation”. In relation to such gigantic periods of time, everything human risked shrinking to complete insignificance. The order of the disciplines, in which geology and history were strictly separated from each other, provided a remedy. But since the Anthropocene was brought into discussion at the beginning of this millennium as a new age of geological age, the boundary between human and earth history has become blurred. Geological change no longer occurs without human influence, and the changes in climate and geology that used to be hardly perceptible in the span of a human lifetime now seem to be noticeably accelerating. In the transition to the high mountains, the Furka region is a place where different forms of temporality intersect. Their dynamics manifest in geological formations as well as in plant and animal populations or the shrinking of the ice masses in the nearby Rhone glacier. But also the revival of the former military barracks as a research and education station or the ageing of the closed-down Hotel Furkablick in immediate vicinity can be read as signs of both historical and climatic change. Together with biologists Erika Hiltbrunner and Christian Körner (both ALPFOR, University of Basel) we will explore the time and age dimensions of different animals, plants and their substrates, of stable and changing habitats, of different micro- and macroclimates. Inputs, discussions, hikes, informal talks and your own contributions will structure the days on the Furka. (E) Attendance during the excursion days, development of an own work project on the topics under negotiation, presentation at the end of the block days. |

| Bemerkung | Accommodation: We will stay at the research station ALPFOR on the Furka Pass at 2440m. The simple but spacious youth hostel-style rooms are shared by two to four participants. Wool blankets, duvets, bed linen and pillow cases are provided. sleeping bags are welcome. There is a good mobile phone connection, but limited WLAN. Food: Margaretha Jüngling (Alumna MA Transdisciplinary Studies and professional chef) will cook simple but delicious meals for us. Vegetarian food option is available, but vegan cannot be promised. However, everything is produced and farmed locally. Please email your diary preferences or any allergies to jana.thierfelder@zhdk.ch by May 15th. Travel: Participants will arrive at Sunday, July 7th in the afternoon (latest welcome at 17:00) and depart on Friday 12th July in the early afternoon (ca. 13:00). Please make your own travel arrangement. The post bus station is called “Furkapass, Hotel Furkablick”. Buses start from either from Andermatt or Oberwald. What to bring: You will need your laptop, notebook for field notes and any other material you need for your work, waterproof mountain boots (NO sport shoes please), slippers for indoor, sun hat, sun cream, good (and warm) weatherproof cloth, towel. Small bag (rucksack) for outdoor activities, reusable drinking bottles and lunch boxes, sleeping bag if possible.. Finance: Students have to take care of half the cost for accommodation, food, and transportation (with Halbtax). It will be around CHF 210. By registering for the project week, students commit to participate during the whole week. The entry fees must be paid by May 15th. (you will receive a bill before this date). There will be a no-show fee in case participants pull out of the project week later than May 15th.
