Lernziele / KompetenzenThis module introduces students to methods and strategies of conducting academic research and gives them the tools to develop an independent research project in the arts as a way of reflecting on their own artistic practice. The goal is to help them prepare for and accompany them in their research and writing process for the MA-Thesis.
InhalteHow do artistic creation and scholarly research in theatre and performance come together and enhance one another? What knowledge do we as artists have? These will be our starting questions for this course that gives students an overview of how to approach academic research in an artistic context, read academic articles, structure their own theoretical arguments, formulate a research question and devise ways of how to use research to reflect their own work as artists and to participate in current debates on theatre and performance today.

This course is conducted as a research writing laboratory, in which students will be able to devise and workshop their MA-thesis proposal, develop an argument, experiment with writing in an academic context and receive feedback on excerpts of their writing in progress. The course will be conducted in English, however students can choose to write in either English or German for the course. Texts will be provided in class.
