Inhalte | We, a group of students and teachers from Zurich University of the Arts, mainly situated in the transdisciplinarity program and a group of artists and community activists centered around Termokiss - a self-organized social and cultural center in Prishtina, for more than a year have created a publishing platform for expression, experimentation and research in the format of a self-made and autonomous newspaper known as Potpuri. Prishtina in 2022 became a vibrant city for many art lovers, urban-dwellers, and passerbyers; this enthusiasm to be in Prishtina and Kosovo was incited by the overly advertised art biennale Manifesta 14 Prishtina. Locals and non-locals who were in close contact with Prishtina and understood its social and political urgencies felt the need to oppose such neo-liberal exploitation of artistic expression. Thus Potpuri: Gazeta 01 was born. Through a fusion between Zurich and Prishtina, this platform became an honest reflection of the immediate urgencies of the locals and a reflective and transparent space for those who wished to be in exchange with Prishtina through alternative approaches to connecting with the city. In such in-between Potpuri: Gazeta 01 was published in 400 copies in Prishtina and spread around Europe. Prishtina Lab continues this semester to work with and publish the next edition of Potpuri: Gazeta 02. Developed in two main phases, the Project Week and the Semester Lab, Potpuri: Gazeta 02 will be developed, conceptualized, and taking shape on a collaborative and bottom-up approach with the Lab participants and the community of Termokiss. Curated in feedback with various previous participants, the Project Week will be filled with site-visits and exchanges with self-publishing and autonomous platforms in Zurich and various discussions with the Termokiss community joining us physically in Zurich. While in exchange with this Lab we wish to question what does it mean to publish today? How is the format of a newspaper approached in Zurich vs in Prishtina? How is such a publication seen in Zurich while Potpuri is the only printed format of the newspaper in the whole of Kosovo? How do we balance knowledge exchange, between contrasting possibilities and resources in these two countries? Can these questions be answered by asking ourselves: how can we work together? If yes, can such openness produce, enable and cherish a collaboration reflected and embodied in the format of a newspaper? And can this collaboration still produce the individual space that we need for self-expression? |
