Lernziele / Kompetenzen
  • Become familiar with and understand the structures, institutions, power vectors, and discourses that shape the current art field, and their historical backgrounds
InhalteAfter the first semester's introductory context module focused on the “artist” and the ideas and images associated with it, the focus in the second semester shifts to the art field in which art circulates, is exhibited, distributed, traded, collected, discussed and negotiated. The module looks at the structures, institutions, power vectors and discourses that shape the art field and their historical backgrounds, but also how artists can relate to them.

This module provides an overview of the structures, institutions, and discourses that shape the art world today.

Mareike Dittmer (*1978) studied cultural and communication sciences at the UdK Berlin and was involved with frieze magazine for almost 20 years, as co-founder and co-publisher of frieze d/e and later as associate publisher of frieze. From 2019-20, she was the director of Art Stations Foundation / Muzeum Susch. Since 2020, she’s the Director of Public Engagement for TBA21–Academy.
