Inhalte | “Scholarly writing” might sound like an introspective, intellectual activity, but immersing yourself in an exciting topic and gaining new insights in the process can be fulfilling and fun. What exactly is “scholarship”? How do you write scholarly texts? How do professional academics go about it? What are the characteristics of compelling written prose? How can you engage best with your readers? In this course, we will deal with research and writing techniques. You will write abstracts and learn how to structure a scholarly paper. Using practical examples, we will make the concept of scholarship tangible, discuss basic scholarly methods, and consider the relationship between art and scholarship. Above all, having the right motivation, choosing the right topic, and using the appropriate methodology can help to prevent slumps or blocks during the writing process. We will engage with your texts, offering critique and suggestions for improvement, and train you in using the formal components of academic writing, including proper citation techniques. |
