Inhalte	«landscape tells – or rather is – a story.» (Tim Ingold) In this seminar we will discuss how landscape is to be understood not so much as an object of viewing or a mere backdrop of human action, but rather as an agency in perception, thought and writing. Specific landscapes and localities play a co-creative role in the thought and poetics of Édouard Glissant and Martin Heidegger: Both authors write in very similar ways about language and landscape, earth and history/storying, and yet they main opposing positions: Heidegger’s philosophy of dwelling on mythical German soil is rooted in the Black Forest; Édouard Glissant's writing of post-colonial disrootedness and unpredictable encounters of Creolization vibrates at the shores of Martinique. For Glissant, whose Poetics of Relation is situated in the insular landscape of the Antilles while responding to European continental philosophy, it is the manifold «chaos world» itself that narrates [«qui (se) relate»] – cutting across the dichotomies of subject/object, culture/nature, active life/passive matter. This reading and research seminar engages in theory and practice of relational poetics and asks about the role landscaping (i.e. landscape as an agency and practice) might play in it: How do different kinds of landscaping affect perception, thinking, and writing? How does landscaping (re-)orient the human body? In what ways is landscape a local or translocal story/history? How can we perceive varying polyrhythms of landscapes, situated in the here and now? The seminar addresses such questions in discussions of texts by Édouard Glissant, Martin Heidegger, Tim Ingold and Sara Ahmed – as well as in an aesthetic research excursion to the Black Forest.

Bemerkung	The seminar will be held in English (with some additional reading in German). «Ästhetische Kulturen» setzt sich im FS 2023 aus 3 modularen Lehrveranstaltungen zum Thema «Landschaft» zusammen, die auch unabhängig voneinander besucht werden können. Sie finden jeweils dienstagabends (Seminar 1: «Atmosphäre und Resonanz: Paradigmen für das ästhetische Erfassen von Landschaften und Räumen» und Seminar 2: «Landscaping: Embodied Practice and Situated Storying»), als Frühjahrsakademie «sich verlandschaften – auf der Suche nach einer relationalen Praxis» (13.5. und 15.5. bis 17.5.) statt. Zusätzlich wird an 5 Samstagen ein Forschungskolloquium angeboten. Ab dem Studienjahr 2021–2022 gilt für MAE-Studierende, dass sie Veranstaltungen, die im Vorlesungsverzeichnis unter Basisprogramm ausgeschrieben sind, in einem Umfang von 10 ECTS besuchen müssen. Die restlichen 10 ECTS können auch in anderen Veranstaltungen (z.B. in geöffneten Lehrveranstaltungen, im Shared Campus, in aussercurriculären Projekten, Labs oder in Form von persönlichen Projekten) absolviert werden. Adressat:innen für zugehörige Verständigungen sind Ruedi Widmer als Basisprogramm-Verantwortlicher oder die Vertiefungsleiter:innen.
