Lernziele / Kompetenzen | Exploring through teatro di figura, physical theatre and an innovative and inclusive approach issues at the intersection of puppetry and disability, with a specific focus on agency and hybrid bodies. |
Inhalte | The workshop will address in artistic practice the working hypotheses developed within the framework of a research network resulting from the collaboration between Accademia Dimitri, Bath Spa University, Divadlo Continuo and Orme Festival, and an interdisciplinary group of artists and researchers. The international research network will identify, explore and develop new and emerging connections between puppetry and disability, to discover what puppetry offers disability arts and disability studies, and vice versa. The key research themes for the network will be agency and hybrid bodies. Aims of the network will be to identify and develop new theories and practices around agency and hybrid bodies; to establish the foundations of a robust network that can build on connections between the disciplines; and to create methods of bringing together disability and puppetry in ways that can be taken forward to continue identifying and developing synergies between the two disciplines in scholarship and practice. The objectives of the network will be to use practice-based, inclusive methods of new knowledge generation; and to develop this new knowledge into specific artistic practices and theoretical insights. |

Bemerkung | Emma Fisher is a researcher, puppeteer, theatre designer, playwright and educator. She founded Beyond the Bark, an inclusive puppet and installation theatre in 2007. She completed her PhD from the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick in 2018. Her research explores unconventionally constructed puppets that reflect the disabled body and looks at the history of theatre to see how it has been applied in ways that transcend oppression of the body. She is the president of Irish UNIMA (World Puppetry Organisation) and on the working group of UNIMA Research Commission, where she conceived and co-organised the first Broken Puppet Symposium on puppetry, disability and health, which will have its third iteration in Birmingham in 2019. She has had articles published in RIDE (Research in Drama Education) and The Puppet Notebook. |
