  • In adddition to becoming familiar with historic Bahian museums designed by the architect Lina Bo Bardi, students will be introduced to contemporary artists and curators who draw from them. Via Zoom, they’ll give talks and propose activities.
  • Experimenting with different formats of teaching, learning, and producing on and off campus.
  • Getting to know artists and curators working in the Swiss and European contexts whose work expands the functions of art institutions.
InhalteThe art museum is often a place that “speaks”. But can it learn to listen?
Starting from museum experiences from Bahia, Brazil, in the 1950s-60s students will have a collective space to re-think the role of art institutions today. In a text of hers from the 1950s, we find the following questions: "To build a museum, we should ask a number of questions, such as the Aristotelian categories: What should be taught here today?/ Who, today, do you should teach? Why do you need to teach? /How it is necessary to teach?/Where do you need to teach?" We will examine these questions from a contemporary perspective.
The seminar will feature additional inputs from curator Felix Toro. With a background in history and non-formal education, Felix Toro is a curator whose work focuses on making art spaces more education-focused at the institutional level. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, he has worked in different capacities at various artistic and cultural organizations.

Born in Sao Paulo, Paulo Wirz (*1990) lives and works in Switzerland since 2008. He completed the photography BA program at the ZHDK (Zürich) in 2017 and obtained the Fine Arts MA in contemporary practices from the HEAD (Geneva). He works mainly with sculpture, installation and photography.
