| Inhalte | Two decades into the new millennium, the belief in nature-culture divide is no more sustainable. For a long time, this divide served as a bedrock for a breadth of allied dichotomies, such as animal/human, female/male, primitive/modern and animate/inanimate (Barad 2007). The notions of identity and race have become unhinged and big phenomena, and hyperobjects such as climate change, atomic bombs, and viruses have questioned the ideas of locality and individual, and the way humans organize the world. Rather than individuated a priori, we find ourselves in a network of interdependencies, in a process of identity formation and co-habitation with all beings of this world. In such world, being can only be ethical, a way of caring for each other, for the biological or non-biological bodies. Here, making becomes ecological, a form of exerting and receiving agency, and a way of thinking or mingling with materials, whether formed by geological forces or by human technology. This module will engage, in theory, with the ideas of «natureculture» (Barad, Haraway) and «reworlding» (Latour, de la Bellacasa) through the lenses of new materialisms, agential realisms and object-oriented ontologies. In practice, we will work with case examples of works addressing climate crisis, sustainability, biodiversity, holism, cosmology and the politics and poetics of infrastructure. The seminar will call out to actively and collectively engage with the changing planetary conditions and to think through potential futures — a task of responseable caring and thinking with care. A significant part of the week will be devoted to artistic practice and research. Individually and in collaboration, each student will develop their own project: A visual work, research project, performance, or a textual intervention. Mentoring will be offered on the part of artistic practice (Hedinger) and theory (Hölling). The final day will see the presentation of all projects concluded by peer feedback. This seminar is open to students from visual arts, music, theatre, performance, and literature. |
