Lernziele / Kompetenzen | The excursion aims to broaden our view on the topics of commons and of cooperative practices by researching and visiting local initiatives and projects in Kosovo, a region of Europe which is closely related to Switzerland through a community of migrants. How does an art biennale like the manifesto influence local initiatives and urban development? With the involvement of numerous local actors and activists and under the expert guidance of Njomza Dragusha, we will especially do one thing during the project week in a dense program: Take a very close look. |
Inhalte | From July 22 to October 30, 2022, the 14th edition of the "nomadic European art biennial" Manifesta will take place, in a non-European country, Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo. During these three months, thousands of European and international art enthusiasts will flee to Kosovo, to the isolated country with no free movement of people and no free access to other European regions, in search of art. How can we as "outsiders " visit and participate in such an art exhibition? What is there for us to reflect on, also within our practice, what do we need to unlearn, what do we ignore, although we could actually know? The excursion to Prishtina follows an exchange within the Prishtina Lab of the last semester with members ofmembersactors of "Termokiss", a self-organized social and cultural center in Prishtina. An emerging collaborative publication developed in the Lab serves as an intervention and contribution to the discourses emerging in Prishtina and which reflect the broader impulses of the internationalized art scenes. proclaimed by Manifesta: Sustainability, Inclusion and Commoning. In addition to visiting Prishtina Manifesta, an important part of the excursion will deal with the finalization and distribution of the publication, as well as with the on sight exchange with local cultural and political actors. Questions that will guide us in the creation of the publication, but also during the excursion, are the following: Could our artistic practice create a common ground on which countless social realities can actually be included? Or are we only concerned with the act of intervention, with our presences on the biennial merry-go-round, with the internationalization of art-making? Can this be more than a neo-colonial gesture? How close are we to the abyss that over-romanticizes art and its (social) inclusivity, thereby reducing it to merely another instrument of exploitation? How do we get into action despite and with self-reflection? |
