(E) Since April 2022, a steadily growing number of young people from war-torn Ukraine have been offered a trial or guest study program at the ZHdK, which was created a few years ago as an opportunity for refugees from all over the world. These courses were born out of necessity, out of the simple fact that people have to interrupt their education and flee, that their university is no longer in operation or has even been destroyed, that a civilian life is barely conceivable, let alone a proper education and teaching. And now refugees and people living here, guest students and "regular" students, refugees from Ukraine (with status S) and refugees from other, non-European regions (with status F), people from different educational systems, the privileged and the precarious meet in the Toni-Areal. This coexistence and togetherness need reflection, discussion and joint negotiation. How can we develop a climate of mutual trust and shared learning and moving forward in our school? How can different understandings of art/art education from different cultures of origin meet and engage in exchange? What is our responsibility as an institution of higher education in a privileged, safe, unspoiled country and what are the needs of those who come to us? The Lab offers a space for reflection and a protected setting to debate such questions, to create a Common Ground, to share experiences, hopes, fears, and perhaps also to develop and secure a common body of knowledge that can be passed on. The intention is to choose an open format, which is not committed to any specific content or learning goals, but rather as a seedbed that allows for possible working and learning processes in all directions. |
