| Inhalte | (E) Whether as prophecy, prognosis, speculation and utopia or as a simple decision whether I should pack my umbrella in the morning: We all have a relationship to the future, we are all influenced by ideas about the future and we all influence the future. This relationship is shaped in a lasting way by how we think about time and temporality in general: Do we approach the future backwards and shape it based on what we see in the past? Or do we look directly into its face and quicken the pace? Do we imagine ourselves into the future and thus overthrow the apparent continuity of time? Or is the notion of linear time not to be abandoned altogether in favour of a more circular understanding? Whatever answer(s) one may give, one thing becomes clear: notions of time and their associated futures are not simply given, but are both constructed and situated. In the seminar, we want to explore such constructions and situatedness from a decolonial perspective. We ask to what extent temporal concepts promote and counteract power structures and the distribution of resources, to what extent they structure and shape our own ways of thinking and thus also our actions. It seems to be time to question straight time with its logic of linearity and reproduction or temporal structures of neo-colonialism such as progress and acceleration. But what would be the alternatives? In the seminar, we want to discuss concepts and alternative chronopolitics from discourses around Afrofuturism, indigenous and queer cultures, political ecology and related "science fiction" narratives, among others. A mixture of theoretical-historical texts and artistic works and projects will provide the necessary depth as well as a reference to the arts and the contemporaneity. And last but not least, we also want to sharpen our own ability to design narratives of the future. (D) Ob als Prophezeihung, Prognose, Spekulation und Utopie oder als simple Entscheidung, ob ich am Morgen den Schirm einpacken soll: Wir alle haben ein Verhältnis zur Zukunft, wir alle sind von Zukunftsvorstellungen beeinflusst und wir alle beeinflussen die Zukunft. Nachhaltig geprägt ist dieses Verhältnis davon, wie wir Zeit und Zeitlichkeit überhaupt denken: Gehen wir rückwärts auf die Zukunft zu und gestalten sie geprägt von dem, was wir in der Vergangenheit sehen? Oder blicken wir direkt in ihr Angesicht und beschleunigen den Schritt? Imaginieren wir uns selbst in die Zukunft und stürzen so die scheinbare Kontinuität von Zeit? Oder aber ist die Vorstellung linearer Zeit nicht überhaupt zugunsten eines zirkulären Verständnisses aufzugeben? Welche Antwort(en) man auch immer geben mag, eines wird deutlich: Zeitvorstellungen und ihre damit verbundenen Zukünfte sind nicht einfach gegeben, sondern sowohl konstruiert wie auch situiert. Im Seminar wollen wir solchen Konstruktionen und Situierungen unter einer dekolonialen Perspektive nachgehen. Wir fragen danach, inwiefern zeitliche Konzepte Machtstrukturen und Ressourcenverteilung befördern und konterkarieren, inwiefern sie unsere eigenen Denkweisen und damit auch unser Handeln strukturieren und prägen. Es scheint an der Zeit zu sein, gerichtete Zeit mit ihrer Logik von Linearität und Reproduktion oder zeitliche Strukturen des Neokolonialismus wie Fortschritt und Beschleunigung zu befragen. Was aber wären die Alternativen? Im Seminar wollen wir Konzepte und alternative Chronopolitiken unter anderem aus Diskursen um den Afrofuturismus, um indigene und queere Kulturen, um die politische Ökologie und um damit in Zusammenhang stehende «Science Fiction»-Narrative diskutieren. Eine Mischung aus theoretisch-historischen Texten und künstlerischen Arbeiten und Projekten sorgt sowohl für die nötige Tiefenschärfe wie auch für den Bezug zu den Künsten und der Gegenwart. Und nicht zuletzt wollen wir auch unsere eigene Fähigkeit zum Entwurf von Zukunftsnarrativen schärfen. |
