InhalteIn this “hands on”-workshop we will explore the “Do’s and Don’ts” of commissioned art works. Commissioning art is the process of hiring an artist to create an artwork, based on the client’s request. There are many reasons why people commission artworks. Through the history of art (portraits of aristocratic family members in the Renaissance to digital take overs on social media), artists were commissioned to produce works for others. We will talk about WHO’s (community and institutions, art in public, private and corporate commissioners), WHY’s (representational, commercial, political purposes), WHAT’s (short term interventions, permanent installations, collaboration, products) and HOW’s (conditions, contracts, partnerships).

This module might be accompanied by a commissioned project involving an external partner.
