Inhalte | This module looks at the mediality, history, and architecture of the portfolio as a powerful tool of (re-)presentation and reflection in artistic practice. Starting from a theoretical investigation on modes of distribution and dispersion in the field of art, we will discuss and apply strategies, techniques, tools to assemble a compelling dossier in a workshop-like environment. We will take into account different levels of artistic experience, aims, and biographies. To enhance our understanding of this artifact, the portfolio lab integrates several guests – experienced art professionals such as curators, designers, gallerists. In a second step, we will look at how to speak about one's work. The module furthermore provides an encounter with works by inspiring contemporary artists. The module will have inputs by several guests (graphic designer, art historians, gallerists, photographers). Gabriele Garavaglia (*1981) is an artist. He studied architecture at Bartlett School of Architecture in London and at the Polytechnic University of Milan as well as Fine Arts at ECAL in Lausanne. He presented his work nationally and internationally, being granted with the Swiss Art Awards 2019. At the moment, his artistic research focuses on new performativity, walking images and the production of hyper contexts. Dr. Gabrielle Schaad (*1982) is a freelance art critic and research assistant in the BA Fine Arts at the ZHdK. Her research concerns representational criticism, transcultural movements and performative practices between art, architecture and technology. She has taught architectural theory at the ETH Zurich. |
