Lernziele / Kompetenzen | • Basic knowledge of the theoretical-historical discourses and references of Social Art • Practical examples and concrete approaches that can be connected to one’s own artistic practice • Development and presentation of thematic aspects in the group |
Inhalte | The field of Social Art encompasses works that involve themselves in existing social contexts in a variety of ways and that build collaborative structures. Critical-analytical confrontations with discriminatory structures, or relations of inequality, are often in the foreground, as well as the goal of bringing about social change. The module approaches the facets of social art from both a theoretical-historical and from a practice-oriented perspective. In doing so, we focus on three dimensions that are particularly formative for the field. Using the terms social, research and action, we investigate the implications and potentials that arise when artists work in the social space. We discuss methods and challenges of social analysis, of taking action and of making visible. Module participants are invited to apply insights from these discussions to their own artistic practice and to develop individual approaches over the course of the week. Elke Bippus (*1963) is Professor of Art Theory and History. Main areas of research: Modern and contemporary art, theories of image and representation, performance, performativity, artistic production and procedures, art as epistemic practice, feminist theory, politics of the aesthetic. Dr. Marcel Bleuler (*1980) works at the interface of curatorial practice and art historical research and is the Head of the PhD program at the Department Fine Arts. He studied art history at the University of Zurich and fine arts at the ZHdK. In 2013 he will receive his doctorate with a focus on performance and media studies at the University of Berne, where he also worked as an assistant from 2009 to 2014. He was Visiting Fellow at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University (2011/2012). |
