Lernziele / Kompetenzen
  • Overview of prominent 20th century figures in light of the topic and understand various artistic approaches that potentially can be employed in the participants own practice.
  • Deeper understanding of the malleability of art forms through the tools of technology and cultural development.
InhalteThe course is an introductory survey of electronic music and the emerging lines and inventions between art and music in the 20th century. Employing samples from Schoenberg, Russolo, and Varèse to Oliveros, Derbyshire, Stockhausen and Kraftwerk, the course will not only be a listening journey of electroacoustic music as a reconfiguration of classic musical fields in its immediate form, but as well an in depth examination of its new impervious relationships to other artistic practices, i.e., visual arts, dance, cinema and literature. The course will also plot the development of 19th and 20th century musical technology to convey a sense of how rapid the pace of development corresponds to the joining and diversions of new artistic forms.
