Inhalte | Modernism has tried to capture the essence of dance by applying the laws of language and linguistics to dance - hence many books are called „The language of Dance“. In recent times, the idea of choreography as „writing in space“ (to apply a literal translation from ancient Greek) has given space for new ideas on the nature of dance. After realizing that dance is an art form that appears through disappearance (Phelan, 1993), new concepts of what dance and choreography is have evolved. Through these, choreography turns into a new structural approach to the world and dance becomes its mode of getting to know the world it ventures to (Spångberg, 2013). A choreographer’s job can turn into the practices of thinking, editing or curating - and consider these practices choreography. Choreography does not necessarily result in dance. |
