InhalteThe term ‚Expanded Choreography‘ describes a concept of choreography in which the action of choreographing is disconnected from the necessary use of human bodies. The ‚object’ of dance expands into the genre of sculpture, animation or performance art whilst maintaining all aspects of the craft of choreography such as arranging, selecting, and ordering. This means that we generate movement material, develop phrases, compose a structure and arrange light, sound and stage effects - just instead of human dancers we use objects that dance for us on tables. In the course of this process, we will discuss the philosophy of „speculative realism“ (Graham Harman) in which objects can be released from their subordination of how they are usually used by humans. This philosophy gives everyday objects a completely new meaning and turns them into amazing performers of unknown movement qualities.
„Objects lie on a table.
We live beside them and look at them and then they are on the table then.
Objects on a table and the explanation.“

(„Objects lie on a table“, a play by Gertrude Stein 1922)
