ZielgruppenBachelor Wahlpflichtseminar für Studierende im 4. Semester
Lernziele / KompetenzenThe seminar explores design as a critical practice and thus aims to engage the students with the ethical, social and political influence of design and thereby with their own approach and attitude towards design. Furthermore, the seminar will introduce the students to scholarly methods, to explore and evaluate relevant literature and to critically engage with artefacts, texts and films.
InhalteDesign as critical practice aims to broaden the field of design and the role of the designer by challenging its sometimes limiting views, values and practices. It takes the ideologies and consequences of the production of artefacts into account and aims to form a critical perspective on these issues and thus to expand the field of design beyond commercial interests. These perspectives can be critical of the practices of design or it can use design as a medium to critically engage with social and political developments as well as speculate about alternative forms of living. In this seminar we will explore the history and contemporary practices of critical and speculative design based on selected projects, artefacts, films and texts.
