  • This module provides insight in the various and complex debates on relationship between nature and humans in the Anthropocene.
InhalteContemporary art increasingly deals with the current debate on nature. A new phase of research on nature and environment began in 1984 with the Biophilia hypothesis by E.O. Wilson and with the “Cyborg-Manifesto” (1985) and the “Companion-Species Manifesto” (2003) by Donna Haraway, which mark a turning point in the thinking about the human-nature-relationship. We will take a closer look at the status and meaning of nature and its reflection in art and society. We will discuss exemplary art works and artist’s positions, and we will also start to develop artistic perspectives on natures and arts.

This seminar is a follow-up of “Biophilia I” and continues exploring how artists embrace these major changes, and how they are involved in these topics. It is possible to enroll in this module independently.

Annemarie Bucher (*1960), Dr. sc., lic. phil. I, lecturer in the BA Fine Arts, co-director of FOA-FLUX (foa-flux.net) as well as freelance curator, author and guest lecturer at various universities and educational institutions.
