Inhalte | Why do we love nature? Why does gardening satisfy body and soul? Why do we have pets? What means forest-bathing? There is a true nature boom, which reveals a variety of beneficial human-nature-interactions. As humankind moves into the Anthropocene, we have to rethink the human-nature relations and to search for sustainable strategies. A new understanding of nature began in 1984: The Biophilia hypothesis (by E.O. Wilson), the Cyborg-Manifesto (1985) and the Companion Species-Manifesto (2003) (by Donna Haraway) are remarkable turning points in how nature can be understood. This seminar examines key terms and positions, such as eco-art, environmental art, decolonizing nature, etc. It provides insights into the current shift in understanding nature and it explores how artists engage in these topics. This seminar is based on theoretical inputs, reading and debates as well as small interactions with the natural habitats. It includes a lecture series in collaboration with the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst (see: Potential worlds 1: Planetary Memories). There will be a follow-up course in FS21, focussing on climate change and the arts This module provides insight in the various and complex debates of the antropocene, nature-human-relationship and the role of the arts in it. It provides an overview on relevant debates and discusses how artists explore the this field. The focus lays on why artists interact with nature and how they deal with scenarios of life on the endangered planet earth. Annemarie Bucher (*1960), Dr. sc., lic. phil.
