Practice 5: Doing the Unexpected 


This course will feature lectures, field trips, visiting artists and demonstrations in order to expose students to a variety of themes, methods and applications within the field of contemporary art.

Lernziele / Kompetenzen | The students will leverage problem framing and solving derived from critical thinking, and creative problem solving. The focus on the background aspects of discussion and art production will help the students to use the concepts, skills and information in their own artistic practice. |
Inhalte | This practice course is grounded in a daily lecture, screening and discussion that set out the historical, and cultural contexts for particular artistic practices. The class involves hands-on studio-based learning guided by an team of teachers, including collaborative projects and individual studio talks. She has exhibited in numerous international museums, galleries and institutions such as Le Consortium/Dijon, Wiener Secession, Berlin Biennale, Centre Georges Pompidou/Paris, Artists Space/New York, Centre National de la Photographie/Paris, Moderna Museet/Stockholm, Hamburger Bahnhof/Berlin, manifesta11, Zurich etc. Olaf Breuning is a contemporary Swiss artist whose works introduce viewers to surreal and humorous worlds through performance, film, sculpture, drawing and recently also painting. Breuning currently lives and works in New York, NY. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Kunsthalle Hamburg, the Kunsthaus Zürich, and the Sammlung Goetz in Munich, among others. Pascal Sidler is a painter, currently working as a teaching assistant at the MA Fine Arts. His paintings are often based on photographs from everyday life. His work has been shown in various exhibitions, including “European Southern Observatory”, Hamlet in Zürich (2019). In 2019 he was the recipient of the Grant of the City of Zurich and in 2013 of the Grant of the Canton of Zurich. |
