Lernziele / Kompetenzen | The goal of the course is to further the experience of the students through the curriculum and exposure to the current contemporary art environment. |
Inhalte | The course will deal with 'outside the White Cube' as a space to exhibit. There will be a workshop to develop working in public spaces. The need and means to document live work and the ways to display the residue or aftermath of live work will be developed. This course will involve hands on making and doing. There is a pragmatic skill base to this in that a student can learn to work with dry ice, haze machines, gobos, smoke and mirrors! The science and inventions of theatrical Lyme light and Neon light, the lurid pull of technicolour and the dry flatness of HD video, all this will be discussed and tested. There will be expert knowledge provided through specific days with lighting engineers. The course tutors will provide workshops on the display, soldering and building and rigging of different lights on a scaffold. The electric achievements of Nikola Tesla, the lighting design of Lalique and Joseph Svoboda, the sculpture of Nam June Paik will be in the mix. There will be trips to the theatre to see plays as well as the theatres back stage to understand the lighting rigs. There will be trips to neon light shops again to expose the process so that the students feel empowered and awakened to the exciting opportunities to create with light. The course will provide a series of contact weeks to nurture ambitious new works by students interested to make art works suitable for the dark space, working with light or installations specifically for this Dark Space Show. Finally, the course will culminate in an exhibition in dark and semi dark space. Bemerkung | If a study trip includes overnight stays, the Bachelor Fine Arts normally arranges and pays the accommodation while students have to organise their own journey and cover their travel expenses. In case of one-day study trips, the Bachelor Fine Arts generally reimburses 50% of the train or bus ticket costs (2nd class) if the full ticket price per trip exceeds SFr 40.-. The original tickets are necessary for any reimbursement. If you do not participate in the excursion (without justification), the costs borne by the ZHdK will be invoiced subsequently. |
