| Inhalte | The pool seminar on Contemporary Painting starts with a one-day excursion to hidden treasures of art in public and semi-public spaces in Zurich and the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA), on Friday, 24 April. On Monday, 27 April, lectures and film-screenings focus on discourse related to painting, covering over 100 different positions on the subject. On Tuesday and Wednesday, 28 and 29 April, hands-on activities explore practical questions (see below), and on Thursday, 30 April, we experiment with digital and moving painting strategies, playing with iPads and projections. For the hands-on workshop, participants choose according to preference from the following list: • Stretching, gluing, and priming canvases, exploring materials. • Synthetic, organic, and metallic pigments. • Oil, acrylic, water/gouache, encaustic, and spray. • Art handling, storing, and conservation. Following enrolment, you will have access to our PAUL course to make your selections. We will then finalize the content of the workshop. For our day of experimentation: Design an experiment. You chose what to do. It is required that all participants are involved on a practical level. Further information and procedural guidelines will be accessible on PAUL. About the teachers: Pascal Sidler lives and works in Zurich, where he was born in 1989. He studied art at the Academy of Art and Design in Basel (MA, 2015) and at the Zurich University of the Arts (BA, 2013). In his practice, Pascal Sidler focuses on painting, often based on photographs he has taken of everyday life. His work has been shown in various exhibitions, including “European Southern Observatory”, Hamlet in Zürich (2019), “Kunststipendien der Stadt Zürich 2019”, Helmhaus Zürich, “Swiss Art Awards 2019” in Basel, “HandySchlüsselPortemonnaie”, KOBO Art Space in Zurich (2019), “Werkschau 2018”, Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, “Horizons” with Kevin Aeschbacher, Reto Project Space in Zurich (2016), “Mx. World. On the Million Genders of the Real”, Kunsthalle Basel (2015). In 2019 he was the recipient of the Grant of the City of Zurich and in 2013 of the Grant of the Canton of Zurich. Dominique Lämmli is an artist and philosopher, co-founder/-director of FOA-FLUX, an independent research venture focusing on art in global contexts. She currently holds a professorship of drawing and painting at the MA Fine Arts, ZHdK. She has been an advisor in art/architecture/public space committees, such as KiöR, a strategic working group of Zurich for art in public spheres. As a guest lecturer, she has been teaching and giving lectures at universities and art institutions such as ETH CH-Zurich, Weissensee Kunsthochschule DE-Berlin, DasArts NL-Amsterdam, Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology IN-Bangalore, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China Academy of Art in CN-Hangzhou, Institut Kesenian ID-Jakarta, among others. She has obtained numerous art grants and studio residencies in the last thirty years, including a fellowship from the Akademie Schloss Solitude.
