Lernziele / Kompetenzen | The course is primarily intended for students of physical theatre. New forms of theatre, including physical theatre, rarely start their creation on the basis of a text. Therefore, they can sometimes lack a precisely formulated central point for one’s questioning (which text provides in traditional dramaturgy) and often leave their creators in a state of confusion and disorientation during the creative process. |
Inhalte | The course is intended to help creators understand basic rules of dramaturgy, emanating from theatre plays of ancient Greece, mostly plays by Sophocles, as well as plays by Shakespeare and Samuel Becket. The course will provide basic definitions of elementary dramaturgic terminology, such as “situation”, “dramatic situation”, “character/personage/figure”, “role”, “image/scene”, story, plot, etc. These terms will be (re)discovered and understood not only through the definitions the teacher gives, but through common discussions and the process of asking questions. During the course, we will discover the ritual basis of theatre, its birth from cultic drama, rituals and ceremonies. The students will have the opportunity to compare a variety of transformations (presence or absence) of this ritualistic basis in modern and contemporary theatre. The second part of the course will be dedicated to practical exercises of creating a situation and its development in staging. |
