InhalteWe will discuss all the issues that you wish to consider in and around your work – matters from personal, to local or broader subjects, the translation of your interrogations, information about the art system, production, or even education can be addressed. To examine the methodology you undertake, we will study your choice of topics, how you might wander to inquire and reach what you wonder about, and how you determine and develop your projects. During the presentations we will also examine and reflect upon the critical and political aspects of the works.

Framed by the times we are living in, themes of interest, references, personal research and the followed process, the raised questions will serve in the development of artistic strategies and the expression of positions. To broaden the debate, guest lecturers will join the seminar, and we will visit a few exhibitions.

About the teachers:

Elodie Pong is a video and conceptual artist who lives and works in Zurich. She is known for her analytic works, often built as cycles or in series, and which focus on human relationships, cultural codes and their impacts on contemporary society. In the last few years she has been working around smell, which she sees as a metaphor for the liquidity of our times. She considers the olfactory as a playful heterotopia, free from the hegemony of power and dominant discourses. She is currently working on a “live film” performance, and writing a feature film on smell induced memories that are identity defining.

Erik Steinbrecher, born in Basel in 1963, lives in Berlin. His work as an artist has developed in two main directions: the areas of sculpture and architecture as well as the realm of publication. Steinbrecher released numerous books and printed matters, which always expose a strong conceptual idea and function as independent artworks. Recent show: Centre for Artist´s publications / The Weserburg Museum for Modern Art, Bremen. Recent publication: Ausmalbuch, Nieves, Zurich. Upcoming publication: Schmierpapier, Merve, Leipzig.
