Lernziele / KompetenzenThis seminar provides students with an overview and basic understanding of theoretical concepts of global art and world and of exemplary art works from different contexts. It will also be an introduction to visual and contextual analysis.
InhalteArt is a worldwide and dynamic phenomenon that roots deeply in cultures and time. In particular the visual arts have created their own art worlds that mirror cultural globalization. This raises fundamental questions, not only concerning the diverse and transcultural occurrence of art but also concerning theoretical approaches that attempt to answer these questions.
This seminar explores relations and contexts of art and globalization by analyzing and discussing selected art works and their contexts. It is structured around core themes that are relevant for the study of art in global contexts: culturally defined and restricted concepts and institutions of art; transcultural comparison and artistic cross-fertilization between and hybridization of cultures.
