Understanding the relation between cultural changes and photography in connection with (the history of) art and philosophy.
InhalteThe seminar starts from the avant-garde movement and the notion of reproduction that became pivotal for interwar photography as well as for postmodern aesthetics. The avant-garde and modernist approach will reappear during the second day of the seminar that is dedicated to conceptual and postconceptual photographers. The discussion of "photographic essence", realism, truth, manipulation, and retouch, as well as digital changes in the photographic process is at the center of the following session, accompanied by reflections on the political involvement of the medium and the post-photographic condition of contemporary art. The fourth session is concentrated on feminism, gender studies, postcolonial theory and its influence on photography. The last day will be dedicated to amateur photography and the relation between the medium and pop culture. The morning sessions are primarily intended for lectures, presentations by students and discussions, the afternoon sessions are dedicated to visiting photography exhibitions and discussing films.
