Lernziele / KompetenzenThe goal of the workshop is a basic understanding of the principles of the phenomena of puppets.The workshop is primarily about discovering the physicality of puppets and comparing it with the physicality of the actor; it is also about the possibility of using puppets in theatrical performances.
InhalteWe will discover through different approaches what puppets really are and what puppets can be. We will take a short historical tour and will realize that puppets have been connected with human culture from its beginning.Then through various exercises we will try to research the basic principles of puppets and human movement, their similarities, differences and their potential. We will also try to understand how puppets can help us in learning about our movement, our mind, our emotions, and ourselves. Finally we will try to discover ways how to use all this gained knowledge in concrete theatre work.
Bibliographie / LiteraturStudents are asked to:- Read the book by Henrik Jurkowski „The Metamorphosis of puppet theatre in XX century“- Learn the basic thesis by Edward Gordon Craig included in „The Actor and the Über-marionette“ (1907)- Prepare a short speech about your previous meeting with puppets. (As a spectator of a puppet show, or a meeting with an actor who works with puppets).
