InhalteWe will look at and deconstruct the way grand narratives of conspiracy are created and sustained, very often in obvious opposition to easily available facts.

Whether we call it fake news, alternative facts, or revisionism, conspiracy theories are strong and enduring narratives. Using examples from contemporary art, television shows, documentary film and cinema, we will look at this battleground of the representation of reality.

For example, the effectiveness of racism, anti-semitism or anti-immigration fervor, over centuries, lies in its appeal to emotions rather than to intellect. Conspiracy can be understood as a tactical approach, one which harnesses fear and capitalizes on perceived self-interest. The perception of the self as a victimised minority engenders a hostility toward democratic processes and principles.
