Lernziele / Kompetenzen | This academic writing seminar will prepare students to write research papers for conferences and journals, and to put together a B.A. thesis. The seminar will be held in English and will cover some of the challenges for non-native speakers writing in English, but it is not an ESL language course. |
Inhalte | Good writing of any kind develops through a creative process, and allows writers to sharpen their thoughts as they are working. These principles are equally relevant for academic writing. This five-part course covers key aspects of the scholarly writing process, from planning and researching a project to creating an outline, writing a first draft, and revising and editing the finished text. We will also look at academic writing standards such as proper citation format and effective use of references and quotations. The seminar includes reading and writing exercises that will allow students to improve both their own writing skills and their ability to critically read others’ texts. Students will be presented with a variety of resources, in print and online, for continuing to improve their writing in an independent study process. |
