Inhalte | The October School is a format for students, teachers, and researchers. Here artistic practices concerning public debates and their theories are developed together with partners in New Delhi, Hong Kong, Mexico City, and Johannesburg. This year the program of the October School will be framed by collegues from Johannesburg and highlighting postcolonial strategies of artists in South Africa. The seminar will offer preparatory discussions of artworks, theories and literature which are relevant for the October school 2018. Subjects of discussion are: Politics of Emotion, Epistemologies of the South, tension between local and universal issues, art and public debates. The philosophy and poetics of Edmond Jabès concerning the notion of the migrant and of subversion will serve as our guideline in this endeavor. Frank Krähenbühl (October School/IFcar) and other guests will contribute to the seminar. Please note: The seminar is open to every student interested in these subjects! There will be no obligation to participate in the October School held in Johannesburg! The seminar will give you an update concerning current art practices and public debates and their theoretic contexts. Nils Röller is Professor for Media and Culture Theory at the Zurich University of the Arts. He was director of the Digitale Festival together with Siegfried Zielinski from 1995–1999 at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM). There he established the Vilém Flusser Archive and was co-editor of the KHM’s yearbook Lab – Jahrbuch für Künste und Apparate. 2002 he published the online novel SMS macht Liebe and 2003 Towards Cuzco at ZKM – Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (zkm.de/publikation/towards-cuzco).
