Inhalte | Where are we? How did we get here? Let’s catch up with what happened so far. This course considers reading as a strong force that informs artistic positions and practices. Within the art world reading is corralled into reading lists. Some of them are explicit, some are implicit. The task of this course is to have a good look at the reading lists around and come up with some more. French women from the 80s. Fiction crushes. Friends. Frustrations. Fashions. The course will take place outside. Outside of the Toni building that sits on our shoulders like those books – the manifested reading lists – sit heavily on our bookshelfs. Leaving a building seems much easier than leaving the canon. But hasn’t the institution shaped our body, following us wherever we go? This course is based on collectively reflecting what it means to be educated in the arts up to a Master’s level. It is aimed at rereading it as a story of fiction. Through shared readings and discussions in various locations in the city we will come to terms and sort: Which signs of our formation do we share, which of them are structurally given, which are self chosen? We will revisit and reread the texts that we consider to have been necessary and those that seem optional for where we find ourselves now. In collective exercises we will develop and practice methods of leaving, revisiting and replacing. |
