Lehrform | Analysis of exhibition case studies throughout history to the present day and workshops reenacting exhibitions. |
Lernziele / Kompetenzen | Develop a critical understanding of the exhibition history of artists taking on the role of curator from early 20th century to the present day. Questioning both what the expected perceived position of the artist and the curator are and how expectations have been deconstructed and shifted with time and the advancement in technology. How understanding is formed and new contexts are created through reenactment of exhibitions from the past. Collaboration strategies. Single-authored positions in comparison to group thematics. |
Inhalte | Taking "the exhibition" as a critical medium, artists have often in the process radically rethought the conventional form of the exhibition as such. The exhibition becoming "form" in itself. From the late 19th century up to the present day, the role of artist and the role of curator have ever increasingly, with time and technology, been questioned, and the classic understanding of these positional modes deconstructed, merged, and blurred. Through group discussions on case studies and workshops reenacting previous exhibitions, this course aims to engage in critical thinking about exhibition history ? where we are now and what's next. |
