Inhalte | The course will be centered around English music in the rich musical period between 1580 and 1700. This will include compositions for voice and lute by John Dowland (1563-1626), John Daniel (1564 - c. 1626) and Nicholas Lanier (1588-1666), Madrigals of Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625), compositions by Henry Lawes (1595-1662) and William Lawes (1602-1645), and music of the restoration period by John Blow (1649-1708) and his most famous student Henry Purcell (1659-1695). (Editions by Sergius Kagen are to be avoided…the complete Orpheus Britannicus and Harmonia Sacra exist in facsimile.) Singers, lute players, gambists, recorder players and harpsichordists are welcome. |
