Inhalte | Texture defines an in-between and dynamic dimension of lived experience pertaining to matter, movement, and discourse and thus foregrounds situated and transdisciplinary aspects of the urban fabric. In the seminar we will further explore different material, discursive and bodily dimensions of texture. A mobile lab will be our focal point to further investigate how we can build techniques or tools for investigating urban textures, how we can use the lab as instigating situations of encounter and public engagement, and how it can become a mobile archive for further research. A specific focus for the seminar will be the concept of relation as a fundamental element of how we can conceive texture in relation to space, time, and the body. The seminar will be structured along short theoretical inputs and small practical exercises activating the concepts followed by extended work in groups. The goal will be to have a set of tools or techniques for investigating, intervening into, and archiving textures in the urban fabric. There has been a first edition of the seminar Texturing Space in fall semester 2015 (vv-alt.zhdk.ch/courses/33396), where we developed preliminary approaches on how to conceptualize and engage with texture in urban environments. Part of the seminar was the development of and experimentation with a mobile lab; this research and experimentation will be continued in the present seminar. New students are as welcome as the ones having participated in the preceding seminar. Right after the seminar we will be travelling with the lab to Hong Kong to explore its possibilities together with local artists and designers (see Projektwoche 1: Texturing Space). |
