InhalteThe project week is based on the preliminary seminar Texturing Space. Approaches are developed on how to conceptualize and engage with texture in urban environments. Texture defines an in-between and dynamic dimension of lived experience pertaining to matter, movement, and discourse and thus foregrounds situated and transdisciplinary aspects of the urban fabric. Part of the preliminary seminar is the development of and experimentation with a mobile lab. For the project week we will further explore different material, discursive and bodily dimensions of texture. Based on the prior ideas and techniques the lab will be our focal point to further investigate how we can build techniques or tools for investigating urban textures, how we can use the lab as instigating situations of encounter and public engagement, and how it can become a mobile archive for further research. A specific focus will be the concept of relation as a fundamental element of how we can conceive texture in relation to space, time, and the body. The set of tools or techniques for investigating, intervening into, and archiving textures in the urban fabric, developed in the preliminary seminar, will be tested in Hong Kong. We will be travelling there with the lab to explore its possibilities together with local artists and designers.
