ZielgruppenMA and BA students from all disciplines with an interest in the future of curating and commendation in the arts, who are motivated to observe, conceptualise and design "curating systems" (judging systems, commendation systems) of all kinds - a key element of the "next internet".
Lernziele / KompetenzenThe goal of the course is to activate concepts and methods from separate disciplines to create an interdisciplinary dialogue that engages innovatively with the arts and digitalization.
InhalteWith digital disruption there are and will be new forms of judging, choosing, filtering, curating, and criticizing in the arts - as well as a different way to distribute roles between systems (value-assigning mechanisms, markets, machines, algorithms) and humans (with all the needs and approaches they can have).
Smart Curation - a term coined by Frédéric Martel, a Paris based researcher, writer and visiting professor at ZHdK - is a theme-related thinking space that interconnects players, discussions and debates on different levels and in different collaborating and conversing formats. As such it is lead by a core group of researchers and professors (Frédéric Martel, Ruedi Widmer, Renato Soldenhoff) and students of all fields who will do research, organize and moderate debates, and publish them various forms.
Smart Curation is also an Open Online Research (OOR) project. The space (as a web space) will be built, refined and reflected in the process. The lab addresses students of all backgrounds and fields of practice with an interest in analyzing the topic of smart curation in their field as well as other (bigger) contexts (see Zielgruppen).
z-Labs are projects focused on research and production that will be undertaken as part of z Academy starting in January 2016. For MA students ECTS will be credited in the open-course framework (Geöffnete Lehrveranstaltungen), BA students will be awarded ECTS as part of their Z-Modul-duty.
