InhaltThis excursion to the Biosfera Val Müstair focuses on the versatile relationships between art production, the nature park and World Heritage Site, regional socio-cultural developments, and liveable futures.

We will stay at the Chasa Balcun Tort in Tschierv, a renovated farmhouse dating back to the 17th century. The house includes a kitchen for self-catering, a large room (100 m2) for activities and two lounges. Our excursion programme contains walking tours and site visits, e.g., to the Benedictine Convent of St. John Müstair, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with frescoes from the early Middle Ages. The Convent remains active today, with nine nuns leading a structured daily life. Among other things, the nuns are known for their herb garden and its produce. The Convent houses a competence centre of excellence for building culture and sustainability, a collection of exquisite textiles dating from the 16th to 20th centuries, and hosts changing art exhibitions.

We will also meet the organizers of Art Val Müstair and get to know their views on art and site-specific works outside the urban art market centres. In addition, we will have plenty of time and space for hands-on experimentation on the grounds of Chasa Balcun Tort and in the surrounding area.

Val Müstair is in the south-easternmost part of Graubünden, bordering South Tyrol.

The Department of Fine Arts will cover the accommodation and all admissions during the excursion.

To participate in this excursion, please apply with a short letter of motivation (max. 1 A4 page). The deadline is 27.05.2024. Please send your application to dominique.lämmli@zhdk.ch and studium.dfa@zhdk.ch.
